EITHER URINE OR UROUT

tub-peeI presented the following scenario on both twitter and facebook, so this may be old hat to many of you.

You run a bath for your baby – in the big tub, mind you. You strip baby and put her in the tub. Instantly, a cloud of pale yellow emits from you child’s nethers.

It happened to me the other night. No, it wasn’t ME that peed in the tub, but ZGirl. I’m sure I probably said “shoot” (or something similar), but then “meh” and let her play before finally shampooing her. I never gave it another thought when later I kissed her or blew rasperries into her tummy. Until now and I’m a bit squicked out.

Be that as it may.

Now poop and vomit? That’s entirely different. I’ve had to bleach the tub on more than one occasion from past incidents (after I’ve removed the baby).

Pray, what would do, or even better, what will you admit to?

Postscipt: here’s a comment on my facebook page by the venerable OvaGirl in response to a “stain” appearing in the tub that makes me giggle each time I read it:

Also, are we definite that it’s pee? You say “stain” in quotation marks like maybe it’s not a stain, like maybe it’s the halo of the Virgin Mary who’s making a rare appearance to…I don’t know…foretell the end of the world or alternatively offer to babysit. In which case, we simply move baby to one side because she’s sitting on VM’s head.

  1. Eh, urine is sterile. I would not have taken the trouble to start over. Maybe I’d have tried to discourage her from drinking the bathwater, but maybe not.

  2. I love Ovagirl 🙂

Ant *enjoys* peeing in the bathtub, and seems to hold it just so that he can. I’m going with the whole urine is sterile theory, otherwise I’d be running two baths just about every night! (Amend that to every time we bathe him… it’s definitely not every night)

  3. It all depends…with the baby bathtub, we would empty and start again. Now, I just don’t even notice!

  4. My motto is “if I didn’t see it, it didn’t happen.” There have been times when I have suspected peeing was happening and I have done nothing because ignorance is bliss. You cannot have ignorance with a poop floating by (by the way, we were just musing on the pooping in the bathtub stage a few nights ago–so funny you bring it up). I wonder if anyone will use our shower now. I would like it stated for the record that we have not had a bathtub accident in years and I do bleach the tub weekly regardless…

  5. Yikes… Since I have had children I will no longer sit in the bathtub, showers for me only! (Just the thought of it grosses me out! But then again I have issues! LOL

My hubby gives me heck and says I bleached the tub, I said it doesn’t matter, I am scarred by the memory! 🙂

  6. I think they pee in the tub all the time. I don’t care at all. I even bathe wit h her. No biggie.

  7. Ditto what Donna said. In fact, my comment was going to be her first sentence, word for word.

  8. I guess I am the weird one here because I started over when they peed. I just kept thinking that they would smell like pee instead of clean baby when they were done. (and I have a very sensitive nose).

When they were a tad bit older, I would sit them on the pot while I was running the water and they usually obliged with some of their own running water at that time 🙂

  9. Just be glad it was IN the tub. Marjorie has started this thing the last few baths, she takes her bath, plays has a jolly time. Then I get her out, dry her off and while I am putting away the bath toys and towel, she goes to where her diaper is on the floor and squats down and pees on the floor. At least she is close to the diaper, so I can grab that and wipe up the puddle. (I do cloth diapers so it isn’t a dirty disposable sitting on the floor)
We also have a potty chair for her in the ds bathroom and she comes in with me and sits on her potty when I am on the big girl potty. 😉 Maybe she will be trained by the end of summer, if my mom has any say in the matter. 😉

  10. Pee in the bath is fine. Anything else – no way. Birthing pools just gross me out too for the same reasons.
